Y8 Retreat: A Day of Kindness and Love

On Monday, the 8th July, the Year 8 students at our school participated in a deeply enriching retreat, dedicated to the themes of kindness and the commandment of Jesus to love one another. This special Enrichment Day was designed to encourage students to embody and practice the love of God within our Catholic school community.

The day commenced with a pre-recorded online liturgy delivered by Mrs. Otieno, setting a reflective and purposeful tone for the day. Her message was centered around the powerful words of Jesus: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” This command served as the guiding principle for all the activities and interactions throughout the day.

Students engaged in a variety of activities throughout the day, aimed at fostering a spirit of love and kindness. They played games designed to promote teamwork and understanding, and they took part in writing the bidding prayers for the concluding Mass.

The day ended in a Mass celebrated by Fr. Paddy from St Vincent’s Church. This was a fitting end to a day filled with meaningful reflection and joyful participation. The Mass provided a sacred space for students to come together in worship and to reinforce the lessons of love and kindness they had focused on throughout the retreat.

A huge thank you goes out to all of our Year 8 students for their enthusiasm and willingness to fully engage with the day’s activities. Their active participation and open hearts made the retreat a truly memorable and impactful experience. This day was a reminder of the importance of showing the love of God to one another, as individuals and as a community both in school and out in the wider community.

God Bless.
