Dear Parent/ Carer
The first Blog of the summer and I want to look ahead to one of our big events at this time of the year.
On Thursday 29th June, we will be holding our Summer Festival, from 4pm until 9pm. We are trying a change to the format this year as we will be holding it in the evening after school instead of the Saturday morning slot of previous years. This way we can combine the usual festival activities with our annual exhibition of the Art work produced by our students for their examinations and also our annual Summer Show Case of acting, singing and dance. We hope to make it easier for as many students, parents and staff as possible to come along by pulling everything together at one time.
The Summer Festival is organised by our Friends of Notre Dame (FOND) committee and all the funds raised go to support extra-curricular clubs and activities at the school. It is a chance for our wider community to have an enjoyable evening together and celebrate the many gifts and talents in our school.
As noted the programme this year will include our Summer Show Case, which will involve two shows in the Chapel and another performance outside the Chapel. To ensure that families with children who are performing get a seat and to manage numbers in the Chapel, you will need to buy a ticket for the performance you wish to see. These will be available in advance, but spare tickets will be sold on the gate on the day. Your ticket will also give you admission to the rest of the festival, so you can get around the site before and after the performance.
In the Salle, we will have the exhibition of exam Art work on display. We have invited the families of the students who have produced the Art work in recent years and this will happen as before. However, we hope that the fantastic work that our students create, in both Art and Photography, will get a wider audience from people attending the festival.
Round the rest of the site, we will have the usual mix of stalls, games and activities from previous years (including the bucking bronco and wet the teacher). We will also have our annual bake-off, sports and representation from some of our other groups in school, including the mountain biking club and our CAFOD group. There will be food available to buy, from Pork Sandwiches to food from the Greedy Greek Deli, so you can enjoy dinner and a show!
If you are not buying a ticket for one of the Summer Show Case performances in the Chapel, you will get to see the open air performance from some of our cast of our next production “School of Rock”. We will be asking for 50p entry (you can give more if you wish) for those not buying a ticket.
How can you get involved?
First of all and most importantly, please put the date in your diary and come along to support the event.
There are other ways you can help:
Enter a cake for our Notre Dame Bake-off competition – parents and students can enter
Donate books for our book stall, bottles for the bottle stall or other items for our tombola. Donations should be brought to the school reception.
Donate any uniform which no longer fits your child but is in good condition for someone else
You could sign up to help run one of the stalls or activities for some of the time during the evening
If you can help with any of these things, please email Amy (firstname.lastname@example.org) to let us know and we will make sure we keep you in touch with everything you need to know.
Before I hand over to the English department, who will give you a snap shot of what students are doing in their lessons, this is a good opportunity to promote the work of Friends of Notre Dame more generally. We are always looking to welcome new people, whether you are able to come along to our committee meetings to plan events, or whether you are happy to have your name on our mailing list to help at the events themselves, source prizes, etc. If you would like to help in any way then please contact Amy on the email address above.
